Hi! My name is Kelly. I live in Wichita, KS, where I was born and raised. I am a wife of 22 years and mother of 6 children. I spent over 10 years working as a speech-language pathologist, which served to prepare me for future endeavors helping families affected by trauma.
In April of 2020, my husband and I adopted 3 siblings out of foster care, and officially became a family of 8. In 2021, our family experienced a period of intense crisis specifically related to our children's history of trauma. During that time, we were highly isolated and had no one who could help us through our trials. Even the professionals we spoke with did not know where to send us to receive sufficient support.
I fully believed there had to be something better for adoptive families in crisis.
So, I returned to school and received a Master of Education in Neuroscience and Trauma from Tabor College. In addition, I completed the facilitator training for Trauma Free World, a trauma-responsive caregiver curriculum. Then I created the Brain Trauma Learning Center, otherwise known as BrainTLC!
My foremost desire is that other adoptive parents would not feel alone in their struggles, and would find ways to help their family flourish. Yet included in that dream to walk alongside families in crisis is my goal to educate professionals about trauma-informed care. When we increase the number of people who are utilizing trauma-informed care, the greater healing and restoration we will see for all families!
